Shoot-Watch
Shoot-Watch is a program set up to assist
local farmers and land owners control pest species such as rabbits, pigeons,
crows and rooks. Members of Shoot-Watch are vetted by us for suitability to
place on landowners lands and hunt pest species. The current members all shoot
sub twelve foot pound air rifles with an effective kill range of up to 40 yards
(depending on the shooter) and the pellet will not travel much more than 100
yards.
Our members will be able to shoot on a regular
controlled basis offering an effective pest control service to local farmers and
land owners. We will be able to place hunters on land at regular days and times
as and when the land owners require, whether to control pigeons at times of
sowing and sprouting, rabbits when crops are growing or rooks and magpies at
lambing season.
Our members are all fully insured either
through the BASA or BASC, both reputable shooting organisations and shoot in
pairs or larger groups to ensure safety at all times. Notices can be put up to
let others know that air gunners are operating in the area. Full details of who
will be shooting are passed onto the land owner and a schedule of vermin control
will be agreed with the client.
The service is offered free of charge and our
shooters would like to take some of their kills home. If we are offering a
ratting service our shooters will need either a pit or incinerator close by to
dispose of the rats. At present our shooters are only able to legally shoot the
following:
-
Wood Pigeons
-
Feral Pigeons
-
Collard Doves
-
Corvids
-
Rabbits
-
Grey Squirrels
-
Brown Rats
-
House Mice
-
Mink
We do have customers come into the shop that
shoot shotguns and live round so we may be expanding the pest control to larger
species such as foxes if required in the future.
